New corner reflector installed in Ger de Cerdanya

9 October, 2025

In 2025, a new corner reflector was installed in Ger de Cerdanya, in the Pyrenees. This is the third reflector designed and deployed by isardSAT, and it will be used for the external calibration of the Sentinel-3A, Sentinel-3B, and Sentinel-6 satellites.

The new reflector will contribute an additional series of altimeter calibration data, helping to ensure greater consistency and accuracy in satellite measurements of key Earth parameters such as sea level and glacier thickness. The analysis of these data is essential for understanding and anticipating the impacts of climate change.

The site was carefully selected for its elevated position and minimal surrounding interference, which reduce the risk of signal distortion from the reflected radar waves.

The installation also includes a GNSS receiving station that continuously records signals from navigation satellites. This allows for the precise determination of the reflector’s position at all times and provides data necessary to compute fine geophysical corrections to the satellite measurements.Installation of the corner reflector at Ger de Cerdanya.
